Have to vent...

I have just spent most of the night trying to find out the details of a very special event in Tippecanoe County Indiana. On May 6, 2011, there will be at least 6 Medal of Honor recipients at a bridge dedication. The extremely frustrating part of all of this is that I cannot find one news piece on any of it! The sad part is, I can tell you exactly what time they will be at Caterpillar in Lafayette since I work there. I know this isn't truck related, but having one Medal of Honor recipient come to my workplace is an extreme honor, let alone 6!

Thanks for the info! Turns out Dave Shively is the one who coordinated all of this. He works at Cat in a different department than me, but I can run over and talk to him about this.
The whole thing is being kept quiet for some reason, and that just really bothers me.
I am considering taking my kids to the ceremony even though they are only 3 and 6 years old. Who knows, it could be the only time they get to meet some of these people. Personally, this is the second time I will have talked to Herschel Williams. He came to Lafayette in 2008 for a presentation to a local high school, then he toured Cat. I had the priviledge of talking to him at both of those events.

Re: Have to vent...

too bad John W. Finn won't be there. as some may not know, he was the oldest living medal of honor recipiant. and he was also in the best of the navy rates, AVIATION ORDNANCE. but that's cool though man.

I will tell them today when I see them. Fortunately, Cat andthe local press have started to disseminate some info over the last few days. They are doing the plant tour, bridge dedication, and then taking a long lunch break. After that they are going to the local city high school and having a question and answer session for the students from 5-7. At 7pm the doors open to the public. My wife and I are going to that also. I will see if I can get the file with their Medal of Honor warrants to upload so you can all see the gentleman that are coming to town today.

Re: Have to vent...

Very cool! There were 7 Medal of Honor recipients here today. They had a UH-1 Huey fly in and land on the access road to the plant, then when the tour and photo sessions were over they flew them to the next part of the ceremony. The UH-1 had been restored over the course of 5 years by a grassroots group in Indiana. They use the chopper for search and rescue along with parade and honorary details.
I got a decent video of the chopper taking off with them in it, but I can't figure out how to upload it. Anyone got a tip on doing that?
