I have a rebuilt 350.

How do I know when the rings have seated?

What would happen if I switched to royal purple synthetic at 500 miles? I know everyone says 5000, but I am not sure why.

there is no break in ,rings going to wear no matter when you start it ,i would use a break in oil for the first 500 just to get it flushed from what the machine shop ,then add your royal purple .remember friction is evil.

Just my opinion here but I'd stick with the conventional oil for the 5000 miles before changing.

I used break in oil for the first 500. And by the way it had roller cam and lifters.

Why on the 5000? Seems like it shouldn't really make a difference. I can see 500 but 5000 seems like a bit much.
