Any big block 60-66 trucks?

Hey guys, I haven't been around recently but I wanted to post up my '66 C10that I bought right out of high school in 2000 for $650. The chassis is done as is most of the bodywork (minus the bed), we just have to get a wiring harness and rubber to get her up and running. My dad and I put in a 396 from a '69 Impala and I've noticed that there are not too many of these with big blocks, anyone else have a big block powered 60-66? Post up.

The only big block available in Chevy/GMC trucks from 60-66 were the BB V6 in the GMC's.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

What kind of mileage do you guys get? I've got a 402 that I'm about to drop into my 66 K10 with 4-speed (no OD), 3.73 gears and 33" tires.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

The K30 in my avatar got 10 mpg if I was careful and it had 3.73 gears in it. Now if I had fun I could actually watch the gas gauge go down.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

A little off topic but is your bed a longbed that has just been shortened in the front section only. Something looks a little funky about it. The rear section should look shorter than the front section.

Here mine.

Honestly don't know, it came off a wreck I bought for $50 in OK. It very well could be.

OP's truck looks like a short wheel base truck with a funky long bed on it.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

It came as a shortbed stepside from GM but the bed was trashed when I bought it. I didn't realize till today that it was a shortened bed, I'm gonna take a closer look when I get home. Shouldn't be too hard to bob down the rear half.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

I've got a 396 from a pick up and TH 400, mpg, not really sure, nut not that much worse than the small block I'd guess.

Maybe 8-12 mpg, speedometer has never worked.

I guess it's a little more cool than the average small block.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

Question to all you guys: Is your big block mounted in:
a) the stock small block location
b) moved forward
c) on aftermarket or other mounts?

I moved mine to the forward frame holes, using stock mounts on '72 model taller towers (valve cover clearance at firewall snug on the passenger side, maybe 1/2)"

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

Oldsmobile 455 with a BOP transmission. Homemade engine mounts. I am now working on the rockers, floors and cab corners. I recycled the engine out of my 70 Olds cutlass. Has a mild cam with a "noisy timing gear". I think The truck originally had a six cylinder because of the old standard tranny mount that I cut out. I have a 4-5 drop, with shocks and springs from CPP. I have not determined the gearing but I assume its pretty low geared. It should be a tire smoking beast. I can hardly wait to get it drivable.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

We fabricated the mounts to move the engine forward and up a bit.

Nope.. Been training for my 100 mile bike ride and it has been too cold to paint but that is all changing. Oh wait. Now I have to paint my living and dinning room. I ya will it ever stop.

I cut my firewall and slid the engine back. It took some time but I like it back there. And yes I can get the valve covers on and off.

Re: Any big block 60-66 trucks?

I knew when i looked at the picture that someone was going to mention the custom radiator brackets. C Clamps are just holding in place so i could run the motor. I had my welder notch the frame on the passenger side and box the frame on both sides
