I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I have been to every junkyard but one in the valley here and cannot find the right brackets for my 350. I have notched the bumper bracket (which was definitely a must) installed the rag joint on the remanned steering gear and installed the unit in my 68. I have the pump/resevoir and hoses but I cannot find the brackets pictured below (TX Fireman furnished the pic) in a thread. It is an early to mid 70's 350, not uncommon one would think but actually our junkyard are full of 90's stuff mostly. Does anybody know who sells these brackets the cheapest? I Can't find them in LMC. I am going crazy!
The second pic is what I did find at the junkyard, I am going to use the accellerator pictured (has a spring behind it) to mod my 68 pedal arm. It will get my pedal off the floor at least. The other is an ashtray with bearings. |

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I know that this may complicate things some, but if your yard has a lot of 90's trucks, you should snag a complete serpentine system and convert yours. They can usually be had for under $100 and the couple that I've gotten came with all accessories (Alt, AC compressor, PS Pump). You will need a reverse rotation water pump to complete the swap, but it makes for a nice clean install.
Good luck! |

I cannot tell from your picture which bracket you are wanting. If you can get a bigger or better pic, I might have one in a bucket of brackets I'm getting rid of.

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
which style PS brackets do you wnat to go with???? the 69-72 brackets mount the pump further down on the drivers side placing it underneatht the alternator location.... in 73 the alternator was moved to the pass side and the ps pump was raised slightly and brought closer to the waterpump. if your looking for the earlier style... mid 70's chevy vans use the same engine mount location as the 69-72 but have a rear mount bracket that ties in to the first exhaust manifold bolt that some people actually prefer over the motor mount attachment point. I fyou have the pass side alternator ANY V8 chevy small block car used the same PS engine mounts as teh pickups and you should be able to find something in the jyards even out there... Hope that helps, but I dont have access to any pics at teh moment since im at work.

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Ok, below are pics of my pump and reservoir and the 350 it is going in to. Now I need desperately the expertise of the board as to what bracket I require, thanks a million. I want to mount it underneath the alternator which is on the drivers side. I also have a mid 70's van sitting in my field, I will run out and check what it has. I just doen't know what I need.

Here is the best pic I could get of the van set up (it has the alternator though on the drivers side) anyway, do you think I could use these brackets and pulley?

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Ok - I messed up above, my alternator is on the drivers side of my 68 which is the side I want to mount my ps pump. This is possible right? When I start thinking about changing water pumps to a style with a different outlet and moving the alternator it just seems like too much compared to finding the right bracket to mount this thing under my alternator. I pulled the van ps and it has 2 brackets, one for the engine block with 2 holes and another that connects that bracket to the exhaust mainifold. Maybe I could use the one that just mounts it to the engine blocks, I would think 2 bolts would keep it from moving but I guess I would have not adjustment capabilities. crud. I just want to know what I need.

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I might have the brackets off my 68 Chevelle from when I switched it over too the long pump style. I don't have the pulley cause I used that on the Chevelle but the single pulley from a later model will work for you. I will look this week or weekend.

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
You guys are the greatest, I finally just got so mad today I put the tire back on, dropped it back to the ground, threw all my tools back on the workbench and walked away so flippin depressed. I had a driveable truck not long ago and now I don't and I keep running into barriers with what seemed to be an easy upgrade. First it was notching the bumper bracket which wouldn't have been bad but I had to use a hand grinder and my disc blew up, three hours later I was done. Then it was a bad steering gear I had to uninstall then install a re-mmanned one for twice the price (wife mad) then it was find the right rag joint then it was find the hoses then it was buy the pump (quoted new for 39, 58 when deal complete because of no core) Wife even madder. Then it was the weather because I work on gravel next to my shop that is too loaded up with my families junk I can no longer fit my truck in it. But I pulled the one off the van and will use it as the core at least but do you ever just get dis-heartened? I am not rich, I am not even medium well off. We get about what we need but that is it. The only reason I have this truck (my dream truck) is because it cost $1000. Anyway, over the past month I have done wheel bearings, tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, brake lines, grill, mirrors and transmission and my fund is gone - now I am so close but today I just hit the wall.
That is until until I read your replies. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I am going to take the pic and check my junkyards again now that I know what to look for and will reply back tonight. Thanks again, without this kind of support I would have spent the rest of the day below depressed. Last edited by ubtripn; 05-05-2011 at 11:19 PM. |

I tried to mock up the brackets from the van but the alternator bracket gets in the way.

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I suggest using a complete set of brackets from the van. Alternator and power steering. You know it worked on the van, it should just bolt up on your truck.
Yes I have been down before. I spent 4 years chasing little problems on a truck I wanted to flip. Finally, it just sat collecting dust. Just looking at the truck made me sick. My wife would start every weekend by asking when I was going to sell it. Made me more sick. When the time was right, a kid came and fell in love with it. Things smooth out eventually.

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Just remember you need everything to match. All short WP stuff includes crank pulley, Alt brackets etc. If one thing is from a L Wp it will throw everything off. I feel your pain about sticking funds in an old truck, but remember how long this truck has been around. Look at the new stuff after just a few years they will be in a crusher when these are still on the road.

If you move the alternator over to the other side you'll need to modify your wire harness as well.
Also, did you check with some of the vendors here that deal in used parts? EDIT: I found this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...item2a104508c0 Gary

Re: I am a bout to give up on finding my ps brackets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Hey bro I have a ps pump on driver side under alternator. I was in the same boat as you.... looking high and low. Found this and it works just like the old style but less hassle. Ive been running it for a year. Its cheap but its durable.
The bolts match up directly and it leaves more room than the old bracket to fix the hose or remove them if needed. Good Luck. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...60702/10002/-1 |
