Re: airport find not sure of year.
That is very cool. Thanks for posting the pics. Those are certainly the most unique 60-66 dash options I've ever seen. Too bad about the hole in the roof, but I can see why they wanted it. I can only imagine how many cool airplanes that thing has loaded and off loaded. I'm curious what those tubes are along the firewall above the valve cover.

Re: airport find not sure of year.
Yeah, I should have asked if the speedo works, maybe that's where it died? and I think the owner mentioned he somehow had 3rd gear blocked, if that's possible?

Re: airport find not sure of year.
I think those tubes (over the valve cover) are hydraulic for the footing jacks (you can see one of the jacks by the right side front bumper.
And yeah I beat a lot of famous folk have walked down these stairs since this belongs to the private terminal area. Last edited by robb67; 05-06-2011 at 12:41 PM. Reason: added info |

Re: airport find not sure of year.
I would think those are actual miles. I also noticed the hour meter too. It probably did a lot of idling.
Cool find.

Re: airport find not sure of year.
How about a slip and slide Powerglide? I'm sure this doesn't have a Powerglide but there are lots of two speed trannys.
I would bet the 6,700 miles are original, this thing just made short trips around the airport. You could restore this bit then what would you do with it? Drive around with a staircase? You could pull the airport equipment and restore the pickup but that would be a ton of work and you would need to get roof panels. I'm surprised this doesn't have a 305 V6. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: airport find not sure of year.
I'm betting that they blocked third gear so you can't drive it too fast. Looks a little top heavy to me and I think you could put it on her side pretty easily.

Re: airport find not sure of year.
the roof window is likely for alignment of the stairs to the plane...
the 'lines' are for sure hydraulics... the hours will mean more on a truck like this than the miles as it likely ran the entire time the plane was loading / unloading... there is another 'airport' truck on ebay right now that is a modifies 55-57 cassis... these are the 'hens teeth' that would be really cool restored to original application!!! |

Re: airport find not sure of year.
they have a neat airplane museum in seattle, and have jfk/lbj's airforce 1 that you can look at and go on, It would be awesome to see this truck restored and at at that display...

Re: airport find not sure of year.
It might have 6700 miles, But all those miles were drivin in a 2 sqaure mile area. if it lived its whole live as a airport stair truck.
Anyway its a cool Time Capsule...

Re: airport find not sure of year.
I tried to find some history on the Miami company that built it but it is only mentioned in old documents from after WWII. Nothing about them going out of business or renaming themselves. If they were still around they may like to have seen it.

Re: airport find not sure of year.
There was a similar truck at the airport in Aldergrove B.C. They wouldn't sell it. There was another truck at the same airport beside the helicopter hanger.
