73-87 FAQ request.

Augie has been working really hard on reorganizing the FAQ area. When we were reviewing it, we saw that the 73-87 area only has 21 threads in it, and many are quite old.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...splay.php?f=28

If you guys have any great threads that should be FAQs bookmarked, or see any in the future, would you please report them. Ken, Bob, Joe and many of the staff try to do so also.. but we really need the members help on this.

Also, if you have any topics which you would like to see FAQs, please post them here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 73-87 FAQ request.

I don't have any specific write-ups that I'd like there but I know the question "how to make a long bed to a short bed" is brought up a lot....and a lot of forum members have done it so a write up there would be nice.....

Re: 73-87 FAQ request.

I did a write-up on heater/defroster/AC vents. I'm not sure if it would qualify.
Thread title is my Defroster Debacle, but it covers a lot of ground.

Re: 73-87 FAQ request.

Different types of suspension drop systems, how they are installed would be cool. Static drops, air suspensions, c-notches, how to deal with front suspension components like control arms, ball joints, bushings, how to do drop spindles, how to do brake systems, how to swap 81-87 noses for 73-80 noses, how to replace floor pans, rockers, doors, among the zillions of other subjects. Instrument clusters, what else...

Agree - "How do I drop my two wheeler" is on all the time, as is "how do I install a tach cluster?".

Also - requests for tire/wheel combinations and pics.

Re: 73-87 FAQ request.

Not sure if these "qualify", or are already a FAQ somewhere here, but I keep them in my on-line "library" with a host of relevant others (as I need or find them) for the 85 C-30... just in case:

Torque Specs
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=394125

Complete Wiring Schematics
http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...?topic=11766.0

SM420 & SM465 Transmission Service Manuals
http://www.kinzers.com/don/landcruiser/transmissions/

Probably anything to do with clutches would help as well. I know I spent a lot of time researching what I did not know last summer on that topic. Thanks to this forum my first clutch job on the C-30 still works like it should!

Always appreciate the vast amount of knowledge to be found here. Too bad we can't just put the entire collection of service manuals from 73-87 on here...but I know, that wouldn't be right. It did motivate me to buy that book.

Re: 73-87 FAQ request.

I have quickly found that the 4X4 threads are really lacking in tech articles or threads. I'm working on some suspension tech that I will eventually post some how-tos on if that will help. Googling tech questions mostly points to other sites.

I agree. The problem is we don't have that many 4wd owners compared to 2wd owners. Consequently the 4wd guys go to 4wd related sites.

this one is very common, and a post from the 67-72 side is alway's mention'n along with one from another site. there need's to be one for the 73-87 side, I know there are several on here, I think they buried in build thread's. mabey one of the guy's that have done properly could do one up just cover'n that.

Just a thought, I dont know what it would take to do it.

Re: 73-87 FAQ request.

Two topics would be useful:

1) How to remove/replace window regulator and power window motor with good pics.

2) How to replace window run channels and felts and vent window rubber.

I think these have been posted somewhere but I can't remember when or where.

Thats the only one I know of. I was going to do one for jeff after I shortened mine and posted a few teaser pics on this board. Shortly after that as I was working the the write up my computer got a virus and I lost all my pictures, except for what was posted here. The only thing I see missing from his write up is you need to shorten the brake line running to the rear and change the parking brake cables if your going to keep them.

Really that is all there is to shortening the frame on a 73-87. I dont know if you guys are looking for how to shorten the bed itself, I just purchased a bed from the salvage yard when I did mine. At the time all I could find was a stepside, and I never cared for it much so later on I got a fleetside and sold the step side bed.

I did the felt on the driver's side the other weekend, and I couldn't find a good rundown on how to do it. Maybe when I do the passenger side I'll take some pics and do a writeup.
