looking for 4/6 drop flip kit

I have a 1967 gmc 3/4 ton with leaf springs only in the rear ( no panhard bar or coils ). I am in the process of changing out the 3/4 ton suspension with a 5 lug disc/drum 1974 Chevy 1/2 truck suspension. I'm using my leaf springs from my 1967 GMC 3/4 ton, but using the 12 bolt rearend from the 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton. I called the famous ECE today and I spoke with a gentleman and told him that I was replacing my suspension using a 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton suspension and was doing a disc/drum conversion and I needed a rear flip kit for a 4/6 drop my 1967 GMC and he said that he didn't sell the rear flip kit I was needing for a 4/6 drop. I have seen lots of people post that they used ECE 4/6 drop flip kits on their 1967-1972 chevy/gmc trucks. Can someone please tell me the manufacturer that you went with and the part number I need. This picture is the underside of my 1967 GMC 3/4 ton

I PM'd him the DJM p/n info yesterday. Just in case others need this info....

Measure the width of your leaf springs. If they're 2.5" wide, get a 73-87 kit. If they're 2.25" wide get DJM's rear flip kit p/n FK 1012-5 for pre-73's.

I found the kit I needed. It is the Mcgaughys 33156 for the 1973-1987 Chevy truck. Here are a few pics of my drop.

What's the plan for shock mounts?

Thanks Keith, I appreciate the compliment. I was thinking shock extenders on the rearend so I could use stock shocks on the back and cross ref a front drop shock to a better quality shock brand. I really don't know what the best choice is though. I read some post where people use stock shocks. I also read that using stock shocks on a dropped truck will cause the shock to wear out faster and not give the maximum benefit of the shock. What would you recommend?

I can't see the shock mounts on the rearend.
Are you going to have to weld some on?
The 73-87 trucks had one shock going forward and one shock going backwards.
The 67-72 leaf spring trucks have both shock going forward.

I'm sure you are going to have to fab new upper or lower (or both) shock mounts.

I cut them off, they didn't line up. I am going to weld the shock mounts back on. I will have the drivers side shock mount on the back of the rearend and the passenger side on the front of the rearend. I hear it would ride better with that setup, and prevent axle wrap.

Here are some pics of the rearend thats in in now. Looking at these pics, It appears I got a little overzealous and cut them off because someone said I would have to relocate the shock mounts. I believe they just meant on the frame. My previous set up had the shock mounts located towards the front of the rear end.

Did you C notch the frame?? Ive talked to a bunch of people that say flip kits are great if you C notch the frame. Otherwise they dont ride very good.... Also are you going to mount a rear sway bar??

Reason I ask is because Im about to do the same think on my 72 SWB 1/2ton

Sorry it took so long to get back with you, I didn't C-notch. But I agree that a C-notch just makes sense. I can tell you to also make sure you get the correct shocks because you will bang a nice long dent in your bed floor if you don't. My bed floor was banged up before i got it, but now I have a dent in the floor for the rear end smashing the frame.

So, I've talked with Charleys Drop Shop in Portland, OR. He said there is absolutely nothing wrong with a flip kit for these trucks as long as u C Notch the frame. I was going to convert my leafs to Coils with ECE's kit. The price from ECE to lower the pickup 4/6 with the coil changeover was $1432 before freight. Charley talked me into leavin my leafs in the rear. He said it's a "Myth" about coils riding better than leafs when lowered. U just have to lower it "Correctly". Meaning C Notching the frame, flipping the leafs, and installing a new HD rear sway bar. I was quoted $1500 for 2-1/2" drop spindles, 1-1/2" drop coils, new HD sway bar, and KYB shocks up front. Flipping the leafs, c notching the frame, installing a new HD sway bar, and KYB shocks out back. That includes him doing all the work as well!!!! I thought that was perfectly reasonable.....
