No Spark - Need Help
I've got a 64 230 that was converted to HEI by the PO. Last week after returning home from work it just died. Problem is no spark at the plugs. I had the ignition module tested and it tested bad so I replaced it and still no luck. Can someone tell me what voltage I should have on the wires connected to the distrubuter should be. Green single wire connector? The two black and one pink wire connector? If someone knows what they should be with the switch on and in the start position I could better diagnose the problem. Run the ignition wire ( pink) from the ign switch straight to your HEI.....should fix all your problems

Check for full voltage at the bat. connection on the HEI. Like Rich says its best to run a 12 gauge wire to the pink wire on the back of the ign. switch. If that is good put a continuity tester on the wires comming from the pickup coIl. Move the wires around. These wires flex as the vacuum advance works & often break inside the insulation.

have seen this many times, a hole burned into the center of the rotor button and grounds the coil to the dizzy shaft and no spark

Just to add. Coils and modules should be replaced as a pair. They work together and wear each other out. A bad module can kill a coil and vice versa. As stated make sure you have 12 volts going to the distributor itself. There wires that attach from the distributor housing to the cap arent what your looking for. It will likely be a red wire with a single plug connector toward the end of the stub that the other harness hooks to.

I will bet on the module but make sure the wires and connections didn't come loose. Also if you buy a module be sure and use the heat transfer lubricant
that comes with it. |

Update - After replacing the module and the coil, both of which tested bad I found the fusable link was bad. Ran a new wire like Rich suggested and it is now running great. Thanks for everyones help. What a great Forum. Terry
