What plug wires are you guys using?

I have been looking around for plug wire sets with enough wires of the proper length to run my wires the stock pattern. I have stock rams horns manifolds and an HEI distributor. I would like to run all four front plugs with the wires running between the mount and block as they were from the factory. Most sets don't have enought long wires to make it. I was hoping not to have to make the wires. Anyone find a set that works well?

Re: What plug wires are you guys using?

I just dropped a new HEI distributor in my truck a few weeks ago. Making a custom set of wires isn't all that difficult. In my opinion it's the best way to go in order to get them to look and route the way that you want them to. I bought a Summit brand 8mm set that came with a crimper for just under 40 bucks. Pretty much pay for the crimper and get the wires free..

I agree. I used a MSD 8.5 universal set on my HEI retrofitted 350 c.i.d. also purchased from Summit Racing.

The universal sets are long enough to configure the wire routing any way you want.

Re: What plug wires are you guys using?

I have the same setup as you and bought plug wires from oreilly auto for a 75 vette. They came original with ram horns and HEI.

Re: What plug wires are you guys using?

I'm running Taylor Thunder Volt 8.2mm wires. That's probably overkill for you. In the past I've run Taylor Spiro Pro 8mm. I'd recommend either one. They are cut to fit and I have them run under my headers. Or there's Moroso.

What ever you do, do not, I repeat do not use Accel wires. I had a set of their 8mm 300F wires once and they are complete junk. One was cracked out of the box. Jegs or Summit replaced it (don't remember which). It wasn't long before another one cracked. They went into the trash after that.

Re: What plug wires are you guys using?

I bought mine thru NAPA for a 1976 Corvette. The pic doesn't show full routing but, as you can see, the
front two come up through the engine mounts. Very tidy and secure.

Four years and nary a problem PLUS you can't even see my wires under the hood unless you are looking sideways for them.

Find the right clips for the oil pan to secure them as they travel below the block.

And be patient. This was the 3rd of 4 tries until I was satisfied. If done in-truck, it might be a project, but well worth it.

I only use 3 brands for pre-made wires. MOROSO, AC Delco, and Autolite. Any of the parts stores house brands I have had no luck with lasting. I have had very good luck with those 3. I have a set of MOROSO wires on my inboard boat.

For my 70 GMC w/HEI, I also bought mine from NAPA (74 vette).
Wires were made by Belden wire and cable.
I routed mine on the valve covers and over the stock ex-mannys. No problems w/length.

Hopefully the MOROSO's in your boat are solid core wire. Street type spiral and any thing else can cause a major fire in a boat.
