Blazer just out of shop
I took my Blazer to the shop to have the vibration checked in the rear end, and the slack in my steering.
The guy showed my where the u-joints had been beat out of the rear drive shaft by the previous owner, and he bent the "ears" on both ends of the drive shaft causing a lot of slack. He said he would send my drive shaft out for rebuild, and have it back in a couple of days with all new u-joints = 350.00. So I reluctantly said go ahead and do it. There goes some of my engine money Anyway, he called my back today and said the damage was more than they had expected and the bill was going to be around 550.00 Needless to say, I told him to put it back together and I would come get it So know my search for a drive shaft is on. He also told me that my steering gear box is bad, so looking for one of those also.

I just seen that, I am not sure how much shipping would be.
I am going to look locally first. Anyone had a drive shaft rebuilt? How much should I expect to pay?

I did the same as marksdoor69 for my 85, had a brand new shaft built for $225 and got to keep the old one. Cut out the middle man!:p
As for the gear box, you might want to look on ebay. I just got a brand new AGR off road box for $25 I know some of our fellow gear heads in here could probably look around the garage and find a gear box for you.

That's outrageous for a rebuilt driveline. I had mine rebuilt in my 79 Blazer and it only cost me $98 (balanced, one new end put on and new u-joints) this was in '95 so I would imagine prices have gone up since then, but not to $350. Go look for a reputable driveline shop.....Good luck.

I agree with everyone else time to find a better deal. While you have the box off you might go ahead and install a plate to streghten up the fram if you have or will be getting larger tires.

Well, I went this morning to pick up my Blazer.
The guy was outside when I got there. He said that he had replaced those clamps that hold the u-joints in, and put in a grease fitting which it was missing. He centered the u-joints, tightened the clamps, put grease in them, and problem solved! There is no vibration!! And to think they were going to get me for 350.00 Grand total = 63.25 Know I still need that steering box.
