Spare Tire Question
What are you guys (and gals) doing with your spare tires? With every truck I've ever owned, when I need the spare tire that was stored under the bed, everything was rusted and I couldn't get the darn thing off.
As a result, I haul the spare around in the bed, which is a less than ideal solution. Any suggestions?

If your running good tires chances of needing a spare are slim. I have not had a spare in my 72 for over 10 years. Knock on some wood. I do have AAA.

there was a in box spare tire carrier that bolted the tire to the drivers side near the cab here is the mount in this pic with out the bolt that holds the wheel I have never seen what it looks like cause it was gone befor I got the truck.

Good thread, I also have my spare tire just sitting in the bed. The previous owner did give me the under bed mount, but it's so rusted, it looks dangerous to mount a spare tire on it.

One of the best solutions is----well let me start with what many guys have done--they removed the fuel tank from the cab and put a blazer tank under the rear of the bed--pretty much bolts up with modification for the filler. So no spare there--. If you get your hands on a surburban spare tub or take a regular fleetside rear tub and invert it--you can mount your spare behind the drivers side and install the tub through the floor of the fleetside bed between the rear wheel tub and the front of the bed. This custom work allows the spare to be mounted below the top of the rear quarter so it's not sticking up. The end result is really pretty neat.

I got a repop underbed spare tire carrier from LMC. A little antiseize and you shouldn't have to worry about rust. They're probably available on the parts board too.
