Gas Mileage

I was wondering which will get me better gas mileage in a tuned state [programmer, headers, msd, etc] an all wheel drive Denali or a 1500 series 4X4? I live where it rains 9 months out of the year and it can snow here but seldom does. Obviously you can drive in 2 wheel drive mode with the 4X4 but does the added weight of the front axle reduce the mileage? Is the Denali lighter up front with the AWD setup? I'm buying soon and I wont be off-roading either.
Opinions please relevant to the question asked.

Re: Gas Mileage

The transfer case should be the only difference between the two, you're carrying the same 4x4 weight with both. With the AWD constantly powering the front wheels, it's going to use slightly more fuel. If fuel economy is a high priority and you rarely get snow, a 2wd is going to be a better choice. We get 40" of snow a year and I've never "needed" to put our tahoe in 4wd to get around-----my wife on the other hand.....
