Replacing driver side door pillar - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

well i need to replace my driver side door pillar, the bottom piece, with the hold out in front, before i can go ahead with the rocker panels.

The part that i have seens to be a "slip over" part, not a cut out and replace, and the place where i got it from didnt state anything about that.

If i am to cut the old one out, im going to be cutting into my kick panel, which doesnt need to be replaced, also it goes up high enough that it covers the lower hole for my door hinge.

Now what i am facing is, i dont really want to cut the old one out, cause of course its the strength point of what holds my door on, and i would have to try and save the inner layer (kick panel)

Also if i where just to slip it over and weld it in place, it would throw off my door hinge, im sure ultimately throwing off the rocker panel and the door IE ( pushing them out of line from where they should be, throwing off my body lines, and looking like crap)

if you can understand any of the lol, please help me out and let me know what i should do,

If someone could post some pics of what they did that would be great, or i can try and snap some pics of the problem i am facing,

They are a replacement patch. They do not slip over. At least most sold do

The only way is to cut off thr bad and use it as a template on the patch. Then cut and fit the patch. WES

Thanks guys, guess im gonna have to do it the hard way, i knew i would have to that way probably, but i wanted to make sure so i didnt screw it up

Would it be cheaper and faster in the long run to just get a rust free cab from a couple states out west?

well mines not that bad, it has been stored inside, and i have the parts to replace the rust, and with my financial situation ( a poor college kid with a temp. job) lol that just isnt an option. and if i could do that i would for sure, but it just couldnt happen now.
