Sbc simple wiring

Got my motor and tranny sitting in my chassis and just wondering if there was a simple wiring diagram so I can get the engine fired up and broke in before I set the body back on.

Hook your battery cables to a fresh battery, run a 12 volt wire to the dist, either jump across the posts on the starter or hook up a jumper starter switch and have at it. No need to worry about the charging system for this just use a fresh battery.

Re: Sbc simple wiring

Just a thought, but I have read that it is bad news to run an externally regulated alternator with an HEI. Something about start up surge to the HEI. I'm sure someone who knows more than I do can fill in the details. It would easier to deal with now than later.

good luck!

Re: Sbc simple wiring

Thanks for the help guys. I will definitely check on the externally regulated alternator deal. I guess ground the battery to the block and the block to the frame will be enough as far as a getting a good ground?

As long as you have an isolated ground there will be no issue.
