1970 c-10 Brake sticks after parking overnight
As the title says i have a 1970 c-10 non-power drums all around. After parking overnight the brakes seem to be stuck, at first i thought it was e-brake related but i left it on flat ground in gear and the same thing happened the next morning. after driving an 8th mile or less they feel completely freed up. (i hope)
any ideas? |

Re: 1970 c-10 Brake sticks after parking overnight
i'd park it for the night with the thought of jacking it up in the morning b4 using and removing the tires and brake drums and inspecting the brakes b4 using to see if in fact it is your brakes causing drag

It's been 30 plus years since I've worked on drum brakes so maybe someone else might be better to answer. I'd make sure that the adjuster was spinning freely that the threads aren't binding and the mech that moves the star was working. One thing that my be interesting to test... does it act differently if your last stop is rolling forward or rolling backwards. |

when you take the drums off i would take some emery cloth and buff up the shoes ,most likey the shoes are holding moister in the material ,also check for the wheel clyinders for seepage ,take a picture and post it up i'll inspect it ,look for grooves in the drum and measure them for run out .
