Help...67 truck bed rusting...

Hi everyone, I own a 1967 Chevy C20 small window, which unfortunately I have to park outside. I noticed the other day that the surface rust in the truck bed is getting worse and of course I'm on a limited budget. With this being said any suggestions to help stop the rusting? I thought of using POR-15, but would like to get some suggestions on the subject. Thank you....

POR-15 is great but follow the instructions carefully. There are several types of POR-15 depending on condition of metal and prepwork...if you sand the surface smooth, for example, POR-15 makes a coating specifically for smooth surfaces. In all cases surface must be clean and any loose rust removed. And unless stated otherwise, POR-15 MUST be topcoated. It cannot be exposed to prolonged sunlight.

Here's their site: http://www.por15.com

You'll see they've even come out with a Rhino-liner type bed coating.

Re: Help...67 truck bed rusting...

I used POR15 on my 59 wag on the front of the frame, it did seal it up good and came out smooth after brushing it on. but it takes forever to dry before a second coat and if you do a second coat to soon it will have tiny pinholes and bubbles but thats all relative to temp and humidity at the time you apply it. So yes follow the instructions very carefully! overall i think its pretty good stuff and you can use their bed liner or other bed liner over it.

Just take a angle grinder with a wire brush and clean up the rust, then rattle can it until you can do something better. It doesn't really look to bad yet, looks like mostly just surface rust to me.

Just remember, this isn't a permanent fix. Can't leave it too long.

Re: Help...67 truck bed rusting...

You can us clr hardwater and ruststain remover.Park it in the shade plug the front two drain holes .make sure the rear of the truck is a little higher then the front and soak the bed floor with CLR.It will desolve the rust.the heavier the rust the longer it will need to soak.you might need to wire brush and heavily pitted areas.A few cans of e primer and then some cheap dollar spray bombs is the cheapest way out.For around $100 you can get line x of duplicolor roll on bed liner.I saw a gallon kit with everything needed for $80 something at advance last week in the duplicolor. It is tough stuff but easily removed with paint remover if painting truck nice later.also por 15 fades in the direct sunlight
