Global Warming???
OK, I'm really not trying to start a debate on global warming here, but I'd sure appreciate some local warming. Utah's had a very snowy winter, followed by a cold and wet spring. I got back from an Army-sponsored trip to Germany the day before Mother's Day, and it was still cool. Finally, last Thursday I took a day off and it got up into the 70s, so I took the top off and got a little bit of sun. Friday was a beautiful sunny day as well, although I spent it in the field (machine guns and grenades help compensate a bit).
Then the weather turned nasty again. Last week when I checked it, the 10-day forecast said sunny every day. Now it's cold and rainy again, and when I went out at lunch time, there was slushy snow on my windshield. Oh, well, I guess I'll start saving up for a soft top. |

Re: Global Warming???
No, it's much colder and wetter than normal. We should be well into the 70s by now. At least we definitely don't have to worry about a drought for another year or two.

Re: Global Warming???
Slave Lake in northern Alberta is up in flames so they're probably jealous of your liquid sunshine. Lots of houses have been lost and peolple displaced. And lots of places are under water

Re: Global Warming???
Global warming was renamed to climate change apparently because too many scientists called BS.
You're talking about weather, which is short term. Global warming is climate, which is long term, like hundreds/thousands of years. Last edited by 72lb4x4; 05-17-2011 at 10:26 PM. |

Re: Global Warming???
Washington is just as bad. Today was the first day in May that has been at average. And just this weekend we had record rainfall. 105 and humid sounds pretty good to me right now.

Re: Global Warming???
I can agree that Wa is as bad. Even on my side of the mountains. I haven't even rode my motorcycle to work yet this year. Up until the last week, I couldn't trust the weather to be above freezing. With all the rain we been having a possibility of ice is a no go for the moto. I usually start riding in in Feb. I haven't even cleaned out the garage to work on the Blazer yet. It's been to cold and dreary and really puts me not in the mood. However I hear it all the time once the hot weather comes in. I wish it was winter.

Re: Global Warming???
Turns out that global warming is a myth. Apparently it is now called climate change. Seeing how now we have been in a wetter colder trend for some years now. The story seems to change to fit whatever comes along.

Re: Global Warming???
When August hits here in Kansas we'll be clamouring for "global cooling" You have to be at least in your 40s to remember that one.

Re: Global Warming???
I remember the "coming ice-age"! They also took great pains to teach us the metric system, because that's what the US would soon be switching to. Now it's HOT, DRY, and I still don't know how far a kilometer is!

Re: Global Warming???
It's all the same thing. Global warming is a misnomer. It's more about extreme temperature swings created by the reduction of atmosphere. Picture a desert climate and it will help you understand. It's real hot in the daytime and real cold at night. Acid rain is very real, too. The weather has been very non-typical,no matter what the reason. I'm curious to see how "different" the summer will be.

Re: Global Warming???
I had high hopes for global warming. Living in the wet cold side of Washington state I thought some nice warm, dry California weather up here would be a nice long term change. Last week, I flew back home from Vegas and it was impressive to see how much of Oregon had snow. Seriously though, I feel for the flood and tornado victims back east. Some cold rain I can deal with.

Re: Global Warming???
Global warming, global cooling...climate change is just dopey talk,in my opinion...its weather and man does not effect it,control it,change it and most of the time can't predict what its going to do.

Re: Global Warming???
Hey Truckster-Look back. We flood here about every 30 years. 1952, 1983 and now 2011. Up here in Coalville, Chalk Crick is out of it's banks, and to make it worse, in a case of bad timing, they have decided to dump Echo Res to do a multi-year resto project on the dam. The Weber is crazy high down through Morgan and into Ogden. And now after all the rain, the mudslides are starting. And they don't expect the real heavy run-off to start for another week and a half. If it heats up to our normals, we may see another river flowing down State Street in Salt Lake.
