PS gearbox
My PS gearbox is leaking all over the place. CAn't tell where from, it's covered all over. Should I replace it or does someone know of a replacement seal kit or something I could slap inthere to save money? IT's for a 1973GMC K2500

Re: PS gearbox
Last time I checked, all the major parts chains could get a rebuild kit for them. A new or reman replacement gearbox isn't chump change.

Re: PS gearbox
I can get a remanufactured one for $190. I'd rather pay less for a seal, obviously, if I can figure out what it's called.
It seems like it's leaking from the top cover plate. Kinda square shaped. What part would that be? it's not leaking from the arm out of the bottom, just from around the pass. side of that plate it looks like. I found a seal kit at napa, but it only seems to have round seals and o-rings in it. Is that what I want? Last edited by justinburnett; 05-17-2011 at 07:59 PM. |

Re: PS gearbox
You can get an AC Delco reman for about $128 online with about a $100 core charge. I got one for about that much from Autozone 8 years ago and it is still working fine. I would not mess with rebuilding for the price of a rebuilt one with a warranty.

Re: PS gearbox
I'm headed into Portland to pick something up so maybe I can stop at autozone there. Hopefully it's Something they have in stock.

Re: PS gearbox
Order one with free shipping from this place or a similar online place. Shipping is free and no sales tax (not that it matters in Oregon, where everything is tax free and inexpensive.) Even though mine came from Autozone, I would prefer Delco reman if I had a choice, just for name recognition and warranty.
http://www.oewarehouse.com/searchitem.epc I would use P/N 88991252 (if that is correct for your vehicle) and shop around the net a little. I have purchased from both oehq.com and oewarehouse.com with no problems - just a little slow in shipping sometimes. I don't know how they handle the core returns. There are a couple of other AC Delco "direct" sites on the net you can search out. Last edited by tucsonjwt; 05-18-2011 at 06:15 PM. |

Re: PS gearbox
Got the new gearbox, got the old one out. the pitman puller I got was too small so that didn't work (biggest one schucks had). Had to beat it off with a hammer and prybar. New one will go in in the morning but I had to quit for now cause my kid has a thing at school I need to go to. Glad this is working out so far.
