1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

i know this has been discussed here several times over the last few years, but does anyone have the scoop on when possible repro bedsides will be released if ever.some said on other threads 2 or 3 years ago that they were soon coming out,but no suck luck as of yet.any parts suppliers want to weigh in on this?since the fleetside wheel tubs and taillight panels have been released you would think that they would be in the works but it is probably just a pipe dream.

Last fall dynacorn, MAR-K, and several suppliers all told me that there was no plans for it yet.

you would think that with this seemingly recent surge in the popularity of these trucks, someone will jump on the band wagon in the near future...but who knows

Re: 1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

yeah stepside bedsides have been available for many years.i found a new old stock set of short fleetside bedsides all the way back in 1988 and did not buy them, but they wanted $500 each back then and that was a little steep in those days since very few people were interested in these trucks back then.back then i bought complete running trucks for $500.those days are long gone now though at least in my area where i live.

GM wont release from what I heard. You have to buy the tooling or maybe it was the rights to the tooling, but GM will want millions for them I would think.

I thought there was some company making fiber glass short wide sides, am I wrong?

Re: 1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

even though i love the 60-66 truck board and love to contribute to it,in reality i will probably not build any more of them unless i get lucky and run up on a good good deal on one.i have owned 8 of these trucks since the late 80's and know my way around them really well.i think they are the best looking trucks that have ever been built.where i live it is pretty hard to find a decent solid builder truck for a decent price.thanks for the offer on helping to track one down.maybe if i change my mind i will take you up on that.thanks very much.

maybe a road trip is in order. There are some around me, what reasonable price are you looing at? These truck prices have gone up about double in the last 5 years or so. Since you have built a bunch, what do you do with them, turn them or?

Re: 1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

i was a 60-66 fanatic long before most anybody was into these trucks.in the 80's some people would look at me kinda funny when they found out this was the body style trucks i loved so dearly.it all started in 1979 when my dad decided he wanted a truck (i was 7)so the search was on we looked at a few and he ran into a guy he knew who had a 1964 chevy turqouise short fleetside for sale.he bought it on the spot and as they say the rest is history.he kept this truck for a few years and later sold it.well a little time goes by and i start high school and getting closer to driving age guess what i have got to find myself a 64-66 short fleet.so the search was on again and i end up buying a 1966 short fleet custom cab.this truck turns into a daily driver for a few years so i go down to the local chevy dealer and start buying new old stock parts.i bought new front fenders, tailgate, rocker panels, side mouldings and alot of smaller parts waiting to restore this truck.then i ran into another and tinkered with it for awhile and then sold it.bought another 66 short fleet custom and restored it,but i did not use the nos parts on it.then sold it in 95.got out of them for awhile and finally ran across a old beat up 65 long bed that had a super nice cab on it and then started collecting parts again.i ended up with 2 trucks,my nos parts,3 perfect hoods,2 short fleet beds, and many other nice used parts that i stashed in the garage going to get around to rebuilding it but never did then i thought i would just sell everything i had so that is what i done in april of 09 so i have been without one fo a couple of years now.i love being able to contribute to this board on technical things, whats original and what is not on these trucks.i have been around 64-66 trucks all of my life and i love all old vehicles but theses trucks have always been my favorite.i remember going scrounging in junkyards way back when and have these trucks in my blood.i have looked at probably over 200 of these trucks in my life and like bone stock trucks the best and i guess thats why i am able to answer alot of you guys questions when it comes to originality because thats where my interest is and i feel good to be able to help anyone out on this board that needs me in anyway.

I really don't know what the deal is with GM, and tooling. I imagine the dies to stamp '60-66 bedsides has been long gone for years. I do know the Ford Motor Company goes out of their way to make sure companies like Dennis Carpenter have access to vintage Ford tooling. That said, I also know Dennis Carpenter has to make a tremendous investment restoring the tooling back to original before they can pop the parts out.

Sorry, I got off on a tangent. There used to be a company that advertised in Custom Classic Trucks, that had fiberglass everything for Fords, and Chevys. Beds, cabs, everything. Try looking in a CCT, CT, issue from 2006-7-8 the ad should be in there.

Re: 1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

US Body used to have the fiberglass bedsides but only long bed, and they said, "for off road use only" but some were using them for street use but they were obvious fiberglass aftermarket.

Re: 1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

I couldn't find any for my prostreet truck either....I ended up cutting the long box sides and inserting them like a replacement patch panel. I would be all over buying some new box sides if they made them

Re: 1960-66 short fleetside bed sides?

I had no luck either and wasn't about to pay $1000-ish for a short bed that still needed lots of work. I bought a fairly straight longbed with a good tailgate for $80 and shortened it myself. I'm not going the show truck route so it wasn't a big deal. Wasn't really all that difficult, but, not nearly as quick and easy as it looked on tv (Trucks). I could do it alot faster and easier if I did it again, that's for sure. If anyone is in Cen Cal with a long bed that needs shortening, I would be interested in doing it again or can pass on some of my learnings/advice.

There is a 62 shortbed on the Spokane WA craigslist for 800 bucks. Its missing a lot but can be fixed or even parted out.
