different door hinges?
so, I'm to the point where I have to address my door hinges. one is cracked, so rebuilding is out of the question, the rest could use a pin replacement. I saw a set of refurbs for sale (oem hinges rebuilt and powdercoated) but I noticed they are all square, where my hinges, and all the other 'new' hinges I see have a diagonal cut in the bottom hinge. would the squares work for me? I have a '68 c10, the dude sellin the hinges says they are from a '70. did they change the hinges throughout the years? if so, did they 'improve' them? lol

Re: different door hinges?
The square hinges are the top ones and the ones with a corner cut diagonal are the bottoms.

Re: different door hinges?
I realize that, thanks, but what I mean is all 4 hinges are square, tops and bottoms, i"m just curious if these were a certain year change? or perhaps not a c10 hinge set at all..lol

Re: different door hinges?
All I know is what I described. That set for sale is four top hinges. The bottom hinges have 45s cut out of the corner.

Re: different door hinges?
I don't want to argue or disagree with special k as he seems to really know his stuff, but every '67 I've had had squared lower hinges. I currently have '67 doors as well as a '67 cab with the squared lower hinges, I have had no problems mixing and matching as the only difference is square versus angled.

Re: different door hinges?
I only know anything from what I've run across messing with these trucks. I never noticed the all 4 square hinges before. I guess if '67s had 4 squared hinges than I just learned something else. So,this set is from a '70 and all 4 are square. When did they change to the angled lower hinges anyway?

Re: different door hinges?
Something else to confuse the issue, is the replacement top hinges for my 71 came with the 45° cut, thought I had ordered wrong when they arrived.

Re: different door hinges?
I have only seen the square lower hinges on '67s and all the '67s I've had or parted had them. Don't know anything about angled uppers.

Re: different door hinges?
I guess I never had a '67 I ever had to mess with the doors on. Yet another '67 oddity for the books. I can see the replacements being only made in one right & left design since they can swap. I'll have to look closer at the cabs and see if something was changed to require the corners be trimmed on the lowers. You'd think the reproduction ones would be made as the '67s were,if it didn't matter. Or,they just didn't realize '67s were different. It does end up saving material lopping the corners off.

Re: different door hinges?
I got the hinges, all square..lol...as it turns out, my truck (68) has the bottom hinges 45'd to clear the fender support
so, guess I'll lop off the corner and be on my way....now we know, huh? |
