Softer shocks in back?
So my KYB Gas-a-justs on my 72 are approaching 20 years of age and I'm thinking it's about time to replace. I figure they probably have 80K on them or so. My truck is about a 4/6 drop with 1.25" front sway bar and I believe a 7/8" rear bar.
I'm thinking of putting Gas-s-justs up front and the softer GR-2 out back because the rear is lighter and does have a sway bar. Is this logical or should I just run the same shock all around?

Re: Softer shocks in back?
Are dial adjustable shocks a possibility for you? I usually run an adjustable shock out back so that I can accommodate for load or no load in the bed.

Re: Softer shocks in back?
your on the right track. If you think about it, there is about 2300 lbs on the front, 1150 per side, and the shock is leveraged about 60%. So, the shock thinks there is 1916lbs pushing it around. Out back, maybe 725 lbs per side, and with all of the angles and leverages in play, the shock sees about 900 lbs of force pushing it around. Only about half as much force as the front (unloaded). Moroe sensitrack, Bilstien inertia valve, and Pro shocks, with a 2/3 valving, also, some of the soft, pre-runner shocks, suck as Doetsch and Rancho will give you what you want. Stay away from high-pressure gas types.

Re: Softer shocks in back?
Thanks Rob.....wealth of info as always. I enjoy the vast amount of "tech" you bring to the forum.
So.......would a KYB Gas-a-just be ok for the front and a GR-2 for the rear? If not, what would you recommend in the $30 +/- per shock price range for front and rear? Thanks.
