When it comes to ps brackets, should I grab the brackets and pump as a unit?
Just wondering if its worth taking a pump not knowing if it even works but on the other hand the setup has about 5 parts (brackets) that make up the assembly. This is coming out of a parts yard, 79 Nova, non integrated head (lots of sense lines to the intake) HEI (got it), and its hooked up to an auto tranny ( might get the cables and such for the kickdown). I when all else fails,
just rob everything I can and figure it out later? Let me know...I new to the whats gold and whats common parts hunting.

Get everything.
Pump, hose, brackets, pulleys, alternator, trans brackets, etc.
A "known complete set-up",... is much easier than trying to piece a bunch of different parts together.

Even the hoses? Ok I see your point. So would I grab the intake with all the kickdown brackets attached also? Or would the brackets work on an older manifold? I'll post pics tomorrow of what I'm lookin' at to make things easier for discussion. But I got your message... get everything thats related.

If it's a six cylinder vehicle that has power steering and it's of our trucks' vintage -as lolife99 said- get everything that's attached.

If you can, get the hoses, all the pulleys, all mounting brackets and anything that is touching it... If you have extras you can always sell them. But if you're missing something, you will have a hard time acquiring later.

I just gave $50 for a set-up with throttle cable brackets and TH350 trans kick down cable brackets for my 250 6-cylinder.
Alot of the 250 and 292 equipped trucks had manual transmissions and no power steering.
Finding one engine will all the correct components is like finding gold.

A/C brackets and compressors for 6-cylinder trucks are an even bigger bonus!

Even if they are junk,... you have something to take to the parts store to compare with.

Now all this comes from a 79 Nova....not our vintage trucks....to be clear I should get everything associated with the pump (brackets, hoses, pulleys,pump and lower alt bracket)? Again thanks for the help, I'm learning everyday about these cool engines!

You are NOT putting it on a 292 correct? If so, as everyone else states get EVERYTHING. This includes fan pulleys, crank pulleys, water pump pulleys, belts, brackets, bolts, the whole works. Worst case scenario you have extra parts. Belts, hoses and pumps you can take to the parts store to make sure you get the right part.

Ok got it. I'll grab everthing I can! The engine in my truck is a 230....kinda wierd order, original though but it should work. Wish I could grab the whole engine and tranny as a package out of the Nova....looks like its a 250 with th350 behind it. I'll get pics and post tomorrow if time permits.

The 230 should be fine. With the 250 you would only be gaining 20 cubic inches so not much there. At some later date if you really can't live with a stock truck and want more power than you can go the 350 route and p.s. is easy to find for those. You can then sell your stuff at a good price.

fyi: I got mine from an El Camino about 15 yrs ago. I believe it was a 69 or 70. Problem is I didn't get everything so I had to scrounge for another 6 months. I finally went to the dealer and he happened to be able to order a bracket that I needed.

yes been looking for the kickdown, brackets and cables for a while its the last part I need on mine....I bought a whole motor out of a junkyard for a spare with it on it and told them I needed it all went back to pick up when it was pulled and they had seperated the kickdown stuff and crushed the car...also crushed a factory air 6 cyl set-up about the same time before I could get to it

No pics today.....camera was in my other vehicle. But with everybodies advice, I got the pump and brackets with every greasy black bolt that cam off. I'm gonna ask about buyin' from tail shaft to water pump...just yard it out and disassemble at home.....depends on price.

"Get everything" is the best advice anyone can give. Then, there's "More's Law." It says, "if to much is just right, MORE is better!" Everything! I say all this 'cause I did the same thing about a year ago one-bracket-at-a-time! Be damned grateful you are NOT me!

I hear everyone on that advice! Went back to get the pulleys and auto brackets with cables.....someone else got the brackets (for the auto). Atleast I got the powersteering stuff. This is what I have learned....If it catches your eye for whatever reason get it NOW! Chances are it won't be there tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your advice and my learning experience
