Ignition timing ?
Everything was going along just fine today I had a successful maiden voyage, then the next short ride was a flop. I got her home it will idle fine but has no power at all. I put a new fuel filter but it is still the same I am sure the timing is off and was wondering what the timing for a 402 should be any other help would be great! The truck is all stock . I here that those original carbs are no good but it seemed fine up until today

If it helps at all if it sits for a few minutes and I start it , it runs decent until I start driving then I lose power, starting to think I have a carb problem idk

sounds like it's running on the fuel in the bowl when you start up then as you drive, the fuel does
 n't keep up with the demand-check all filters-check fuel pump-is the tank getting vented? How does the fuel line look from the tank to the carb-any flat spots or crimped hoses or lines?

The filter is the one in the carb no in line filter the fuel pump is brand new all the lines look good no kinks . What is the vent issue my 68 only has one line coming from the tank so I never thought of that what do I look for? In the meantime cause I can never sit still I took the carb all apart and found a lot of junk in the bowl this was my first go at something like that but I figured the only thing I would want in the bowl was just clean fuel?

Is the filter in correctly. IIRC the hole in the filter body is towards the fuel pump. and there should be a spring in there too. Sounds like it's running out of fuel.

You need to put an inline filter between the tank & pump. That trash can get in the fuel pump vales & cause a loss of pressure.
