Re-working stock engine harness

I'm looking to see who has taken it on. The info from lt1swap.com looks to be clear and well written, but I like to know if any one has used it for there swap's. I am about to start a 4.8l/4l60e swap in my 83, and I'm gathering info before I start.

The way I look at it is if you mess up really bad and turn the harness to garbage it is only a $500 fix.

There's a series of videos on youtube from some guys that show how to rework a harness...

I used the LT1 swap info on mine and have had no troubled with it and have close to 700 miles on the swap. Current performance offers a kit to help you make it stand alone and is cheaper that the stuff I bought to do it my self. The initial conversion took several hours on a Sat with nobody bothering me and a couple of hours later to finish it up in the truck.

I too use lt1 swap for my harnesses. Very informative, but a little on the unorganized side. Still, I'm very thankful for his info. I even used the factory fuse block (huge) on one swap, completely overhauled it to suit my needs including all the truck body fuses and relays (that alone took many hours)...............

So go for it, take your time and don't cut any wires until you are ready to wrap it back up!

I use the current performance fuse block. I also am a dealer for them so if you need a harness done or any of their products let me know.

I did it pretty much like LT1 swap describes except I kept all of the fuses the engine uses. So I have 7 fuses instead of 4.

I am new to this LS stuff. I'm trying to modify my own 2003 harness. I have all the un-needed wires pulled from the blue and green connectors from the chart on LT1 swap.com.
How did you figure out what other wires from the c-1 connector need their own fuse(s)? I know the PCM and O2 sensors need to be fused but it seems like there are about 30 pink wires there? I don't have a diagram but do have the pinout chart. Not really sure what to do next? Also, do you guys check continiuty before taping the harness up? Below it was recommended not to cut any wires until ready for tape.....oops mine already had several cut when I got it.

I think the video done by the Alaskans is great. But I just don't know how you fellows know what to keep and what not to keep other than the pinout chart for the PCM.

I wish there was a step by step with pictures showing all the connectors and what they are and what needs to be kept.

I done my own useing the lt1 site took about 6 hrs and 40 bucks worth of parts. sent to puter to wait 4 me performance for a reflash 75 bucks and it started as soon a i got fuel to the injectors. Idles like a kitten no problems

I also used lt1 swap for my info. The current performance fuse block looks nice, i built my own using the info on lt1swap, but I don't think the current performance one was available when I did mine. I drive the truck everyday and have probably 10k miles on the swap so far. Also used it to plow my driveway this past winter and everything is still going good. The only thing giving me fits is rust creeping up on the body, the vss stopped getting a signal, and it desperately needs an OD (4.10's with a th400 and 3's means 3k rpm on the highway!) Use the site its great just take your time.

I'm of the same thinking. I learn better by doing the job or seeing pics at least. If I can only read about it, i don't feel like i learn as well.
