I'm not dumb but I cant understand ....

I installed 5.14 gears in my truck last week . It had 3.54 gears in there before. My mileage went from 11.5 mpg to 13.8 mpg . Thats right. I GAINED 2.3 mpg by going to MUCH steeper gears . Am I missing something here ? No other changes were made .

Did you change the speedo adaptor to compensate for the new gears?? The speedo might be registering a lot more miles than you are really traveling, hence the mileage improvement.

Depends on your driving. I went to 4.10 from 3.07 and my mileage went way up around town. Not so on the highway. Your results will probably be similar. Needs less gas to get going with more gear, but will take way more on the highway.

I'm with class of 69 on this one: speedo gear is probably the reason.

Hahahaha . Maybe I am dumb after all. That works out to a more believable 9.6 mpg. Thats more like it. I just changed to 4.57's today. Lets see how that does.

Always thought that song was too freaky. Now it's buggin' me. Was that the "Kinks"?

Yeah I think it was the "Kinks" when Eric Clapton was with them and there is nothing wrong with listening to the "oldies" stations. Just reliving lost youth and listening to some GOOD music. I do like some of the new stuff including Eminem (AAHHH did I say that). My youngest just turned 9 yesterday.

I didn't know Clapton ever was with the Kinks. I think Ray Davies was lead singer at one time. I could easily be wrong, however.

Hey, its all in good communication. I don't think anyone is getting pi$$ed. If mikep didn't like it he'd comment. If it was a thread I started I'd enjoy the expansion.

I dont think Clapton was ever with The Kinks. Ray Davies was but Clapton was still in Cream or Derek and the Dominoes about that time. I may be wrong though. I was wrong once before if you dont count my first two marriages.

Your right about Clapton, my little pea brain got titles Layla and Lola crossed in there somehow. Clapton was with a lot of groups but not the Kinks. Some were Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominoes. Probably too much Peppermint Schnapps and Wild Turkey back then got my mind jumbled.
