When I change the vent window felt, do I have to remove the tiny metal strips that hold the origional felt in place? If I do have to remove them, do i have to put them back in when I put in the new felt? Thanks.

We remove any extraneous materials and then glue the replacement strip in using 3M Trim Adhesive.

I was to understand that there are some rivets to drill and replace also..........any truth to this...............?

I just did this, you only have to do this if you are changing all the weather stripping on the vent window and it is not fun. Last rivet i put in is the first one i got to look right lol

We never change the full channel, only the felt strip. We use a linoleum knife to cut the fabric away from the beading and the old felt will pull out, there is some scraping and detailing to be done so that the old channel is clean. Once the channel is clean we glue the felt in. Stays in forever!

If you change the metal channel, then riveting is definately needed. The channels are usually good.

What about those tiny little metal strips that run along the edge of the channel? Do they have to come out or stay in place?

I took mine off and used some 3m to secure the new window felts

GMCSHORTY,

I believe that you are talking about the little chrome beads that show at the outside. If you are then no, the beads stay. I can post a pic if you like tomorrow night.

Just take a knife and cut away the cloth parts, your new felts should fit in snugly so that the beading will still show.

When the original assembly was put together the beading clamped over the metal and the cloth securing the cloth to the metal, when you cut the cloth away the beading will be in place and you avoid the sharp metal that is covered up by the beading.
