For those with aftermarket chrome bumpers
Whats your opinions about aftermarket chrome bumpers.
I looking to buy a rear stepside chrome bumper for my truck. I know there are thin, but anyone had problems with them rusting fast? Also I am trying to find a original one but down in Louisiana 60-66 truck parts are hard to find

Re: For those with aftermarket chrome bumpers
It will not be a daily driver. just more of a crusier and I'll do some shows. But will be staying in a metal building. The humidity is pretty high here.

Re: For those with aftermarket chrome bumpers
It seems you get what you pay for. The new bumpers are shiny, bolt on, and are within the budget of most owners. I’ve read other threads complaining about the chrome rusting within a year, even when the truck lives in a garage. Perhaps a good coat of wax every month or two would preserve the finish considerably longer.
I have a reproduction rear bumper which I purchased in bare steel, and had powder coated. Yes it is thin, and yes I dimpled the bumper bolting it on. Also the third hole from the left is a bit higher than the others. The misalignment bothers me, but no one else has ever noticed it. There’s no comparison to an original bumper, which is much heavier. Although finding an original worth buying and having it plated is just too expensive for many of us. |

I would just get the best chrome aftermarket bumper you can. I get my stuff from CLassic Parts, but just dont get the cheap stuff.

Re: For those with aftermarket chrome bumpers
i forget where i got my bumpers. but they are both repro's. they have been on the truck for over 3 years and i drive my truck daily for months at a time and i have no rust.
i looked into getting the originals chromed but it was way too much money. |
