Garage/bar wall art- 68 GMC....
Picked this up last week from a local wrecking yard. Went in to look for a core tranny, they had a '67-72 GMC tailgate with the last 6 inches of bed, lights, bumper, whole nine yards. I asked the story on the gate, apparently they had made it into wall art for a bar in town 25 years ago. The ownership of the bar changed hands, and the wrecking yard was asked if they wanted it back. When I was talking to the guy, he said he had a couple "front ends" from the same bar, did I want to look at them? I said sure!! Went upstairs to look, and found this one, and around a '76-79 front clip as well. Dickered over price and took her home. Rad saddle is complete and uncut, still on the factory frame horns/frame mounts. Grill is nice, bezels have one or two dings on them. It's too bad it doesn't have the correct '67-68 front bumper on it, but oh well.

That's awesome! The hot setup would be to have it hanging on the wall and the lights functional. What are your plans? Nice score!

Cool find! I would just mount it on my wall
Looks to me like it is a 69-72 grill though. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Garage/bar wall art- 68 GMC....
There is wiring still hooked up to this thing, I kind of assume the bar had it wired up to do different things, or maybe just on/off. I thought it was too cool to pass up, as well as having a lot of useable parts.
I think it has '67 fenders, because there is no marker light cut-out. I assume '68 and up grill, although I would be interested in learning the difference between '68 and '69-72 paint grade grills. I thought all '67 GMC's had GMC written in the grill. I have to go back tomorrow and look at the '77 front clip for parts, I can't remember what year grill was in it, but a buddy of mine needs a '78-79 GMC grill. I want to get the rear gate as well, I'm kinda hoping $100 takes both the '77 clip and '72 GMC gate clip, but I'm not holding my breath. The plan for now is to leave it complete, but down the road I need the rad saddle hardware, the headlight bucket hardware, park lights, etc. If I find the stuff elsewhere it may stay as wall/garage art..... I will definately be removing and trying to sell the bumper, and maybe replacing it with a correct '67-72 bumper. |
