starter sticking?

i went to start my 83 shortwide today and the starter stayed going after i turend the truck off and even pulled the key out. i had to go unhook the batt. would that be the ignintion switch or the lock and tumbler thingy? im kinda not sure where to start on this

How about the "s" terminal wire touching the battery cable at the starter? I have never had that happen before.

its not doing it all the time. and i can mess with the key a few times after i unhook the batt and it will work like it should about half the time

I wonder if it may have a weak or broken spring in the solenoid?

When I had problems with my tumbler and key my truck wouldn't want to shut off or start because it was all worn out inside. I would start there first. I needed a new column so replaced the whole thing!
