i'm sooooooooooo glad you asked this question! there's a guy who rebuild's 'em and sells 'em on ebay... i just bought one and recieved it... its totally rebuilt, repainted OEM black, comes w/ a new ignition cylinder, new levers, etc... its all set up! by far the best investment i've made on my restoration project.... it'll run ya about $120... email him @ steeringcolumnologist@msn.com... and check out the one he's got on ebay right now:

Ditto!!! I bought mine from Randy as well. Cost me $114 to my door. No core charge or anything. If you have questions on the removal or install let me know

Question Not a bad price

Is it possible to shorten a tilt/ cruise steering column for a 79 GMC? I'm not fat but it feels like the stock unit is about 3 or 4 inches too long. I'm 5'10" tall, 165lbs. I have the seat all the way back & I don't have room for my wiener dog to ride on my lap (wiener dog is a little fat).

LOL I doubt you can cut it. If anyone would be able to tell you what column might fit that would be shorter it would be Randy.
