spray paint removal help please!!!!!

I have my 87 the paint is originally red but the previous owner decided to spray paint it red for what reason don't know but I want to take it off I gave tried a couple panels and it comes off but I was just wondering what would you guys do or recommend on how to take it off maybe standing then paint thinner don't know let me know thank you

Are you going to repaint, or are you just wanting the rattle can stuff off to reveal the original finish?

If you're not going to paint, I'd use lacquer thinner to take it all off. If you're going to prep for paint, I'd sand it off. Don't get in to the aircraft stripper unless you're removing like 4 layers of real paint.

I would check on the volkswagon website called the samba, they used easy-off oven cleaner to remove newer paint to get to the old more desirable paint, seemed to have worked

The first thing you need to determine is if the spray paint is over the factory finish. If it has been painted over the factory finish and rattle canned over that, be very careful. The baked on factory paint is very durable and can withstand lacquer thinner, or other strong solvents. Anything less than that might not endure so well.
