New to the forum, and new to trucks.
Hey guys, my name is James and have recently taken interested in Chevrolet trucks. I have always loved corvettes but my father in laws truck has got me looking at C-10s. I have owned a 73 Corvette since April of 2004, and learned how to work on cars by working on it. I built an engine, rebuilt the rear end, and converted it from a TH400 to a M-20 4-Speed.
I don’t know anything about air ride suspension systems, or how to lower a truck. I also don’t know anything about the newer LS series engines, besides the fact they are awesome. So with that being said, does anyone have any suggestions on where I can learn about those two Items? I think I am going to buy a book I saw on LS engines, and then to learn about the suspension systems, I guess I’ll use the search function through the forum. Anyways, I am looking forward to learning more here and searching for a drivable project. James |

Re: New to the forum, and new to trucks.
Welcome aboard.
'Vettes and trucks, my genre choices as well, not in any specific order. Last year any chrome bumper appeared on a Corvette. Tell us a bit more about it when you have time. I have an '81 4-speed soon to be a big block 5-speed, just haven't decided how big the big block will be - somewhere between a 489 and a 565, have both, just not sure which way to go. You'll find these trucks MUCH easier to work on than your Corvette, more room and cheaper parts. How low do you want to go? 3/5 and 4/6 is doable without frame notching and with shelf parts. |

Re: New to the forum, and new to trucks.
Welcome to the forum jrblanke. This is the #1 resource for squarebody trucks on the net, so you made a good find. We have a very active well organized FAQ section with tons of great articles that will give you hands on info.
Take a look at our Engine & Drivetrain and specifically the LSx Swaps subforum. The info there will guide you through everything you need to know about installing an LS motor in a Squarebody truck. Also spend some time researching in our Suspension Forum. There are hundreds of posts discussing air suspension, or static drops too. If you have any specific questions, just give us a shout. We have a very educated group of guys here that can guide you through just about anything you want to know regarding these trucks.

Re: New to the forum, and new to trucks.
Thanks for the warm welcome, as well as the links and suggestions on where to find information!
I personally do not have a truck yet, so before i buy a project I want to learn more about them and see if there are any particular differences between the model years and options that would be better to look out for than others. My father in laws truck is an 83 scottsdale that he bought new, sold, then bought back. He put on a silverado grill and a cowl hood. It is a really pretty truck and looks brand new. its got a 305/700R4 ![]() ![]() ![]() I am glad to see that there are some corvette people here. My car started out as a 350/TH400 and its now a 355/Muncie 4 speed. I have spent the last 5 years in college but now that I'm in the "real world" I hope I will have more time to work on it. Here is the engine I built. I was pretty proud of that. Its got vortec heads with side bolt valve cover adaptors to make it look retro. ![]() These pictures are from around 2004- 2005 ![]() ![]() |

That's a pretty car there! That's the only body style corvette I'd consider buying for myself, thats the best body of all IMO.
