Couple Questions on the Gauge Cluster-(lots of pics)

I'm the new kid :O Can some of you offer up some advice here, I have a few questions. I'm redoing the whole gauge cluster and plan to paint it, and make it all purdy, but I'm not sure as to some stuff, this is my first time doin anything here. sooo..
1.The wiring diagram (what my grandpa called it) is stuck on by those last 3 bolts, but every time I go to loosen them, the wiring diagram gets all twisted and seems like it might rip/break.. Tips? I don't wanna ruin it, grandpa told me all about how careful I gotta be with it.

How do I get this gauge off? I took the nuts off the back, didn't work..

2.The cardboard tube on the speedo? Purpose? [I noticed it on the turn signals to?].

3.If i repaint the wall/sides or whatever you wanna call it, of the circular spot, will that create problems with the light for the brake/temp?

4.If I were to repaint this white, would there be any problems/concerns?

5.If i repaint this side, in say white, or a different color, would I have any problems? I saw in another thread someone said something about painting the metal parts a certain color and having them glow at night a little?

6.Same question as above

For starters, you have a fairly rare and desirable tach cluster. I would be careful with everything. The tach head i don't think you want to take apart. The cardboard tubes are to direct the light for your turn signals and hi beam indicator. As far as the printed circuit, hold a thin needle nose pliers under the circuit while you take the nut off.
Again, be careful with your whole set up as they are worth some money...

REALLY?! That's awesome! I never would have assumed so. How valuable are we talkin?! I've made sure to be careful with everything so far.
Does it make it more valuable with the wood grain on the front?!

If the woodgrain is in good shape, yes. Most likely came out of a cheyenne super or sierra grande.

I've sold them from 250-275 in good original condition if working.

Cleaned up and detailed and all working with a nice bezel from 300-350

Send a PM to PTs70cst, or 70shortfleet and they can tell you you better what colors can be painted what to brighten it up. They both do nice gauge restorations.
