Rattling Noise
Hey guys, i have an 85 C1500 5.0 automatic
the other day i noticed a rattling while the truck is in park and in nuetral. but seems to lessen in noise while in drive and reverse. what could this be I'm thinking its the throw out bearing but everything ive read on those has only been for manual transmissions. any help would suffice, might need to look on getting a rebuild.? |

Re: Rattling Nois
I would check to see if everything under the hood is tight. throwout bearings are only in M/T so that rules that out. Check brake lines and trans cooler lines as well.

Re: Rattling Nois
Just wandering maybe loose torque converter and its putting pressure on when in gear and making the sound go away. Have you checked your exhaust to make sure everything's tight down there?

Re: Rattling Nois
Check your flexplate for cracks, and make sure it isn't bent. You don't have a throwout bearing if you have an automatic.

Re: Rattling Noise
think we found the problem. the flexplate bolts were loose, and almost stripped of thread. went down to the local store and got some grade 8 bolts, lock washers, regular ones( washsers are grade 8 ) and lock tight. gonna put them in today and drive it for awhile see if that hepls the situation.
