Adding delay wipers to a 76

Id like to add delay wipers to my 76 and after some poking around I haven't come up with much info other than its possible. I picked up a switch and delay box off ebay from a 78-83 and plan to keep the 76 motor. I know I need to add a wire on the park switch in the motor but thats as far as I got. I can figure out the wiring for the 76 switch pretty easy with a meter but Im not sure how to wire up the new switch and I'd hate to burn out the delay box trying. I guess what im looking for is a pinout for the newer switch.

It is not a direct swap without a lot of work. First off, the wiring is completely dfferent, less of a problem is the hole is the dash is the wrong size and the mounting screw locations are different. It can be done, but it is not for the faint hearted.

Re: Adding delay wipers to a 76

Would it make it any easier to get a 78 wiper motor? im not afraid to get dirty and im good with wiring but im having a hard time finding any diagrams that are of any real use to me. I already trimmed the dash so im kind of comitted. I didn't realise the wiring was that different until I started testing the old switch and poking around under there with a meter. I did manage to get a pigtail from a 78 so I at least have the right connector and was thinking I could match up the colors against a diagram.

Re: Adding delay wipers to a 76

I've done the better part of the swap. I had a basically new 78 wiper motor and when I tried to swap it over to my 77 I found out everything was different.

I got the wiper related wires from both sides of the fuse block bulkhead on the firewall from the 78. You can pop out the pins/contacts (whatever you want to call them) with a small screw driver. I then removed the wiring from the 77 and popped the 78 wiring and pins in. All that's left after that is to mod the metal dash opening for 78-83 switch which needs a larger hole and new mounting screw holes.

I did all that only to find that you need a delay module to go with the delay switch. The truck does have a fully functional 78-83 wiper set up in it though! Never ended up getting the delay module as there's been more important things on the truck to tend to, but hopefully one day I'll have delay wipers.

Re: Adding delay wipers to a 76

I did it on my '77. Like others, I used the '78 switch, delay box, wiper motor (w/ arm), as well as the correct pigtails. Then just added I think 1 extra wire for the park switch.

My '77 actually came with delay, and that setup (switch and delay box) should plug right into a '76. However, the parts are very hard to find and usually don't work. I know mine didn't.
