85-87 body side molding questions

Looking to remove old yellowing body side molding from my 87 and replacing.

1. Who makes/sells?
2. Any differences in manufactures? I want it correct as possible.
3. Any tips on how to cut to acheive the factory beveled edge?

Thanks, Jeff

Re: 85-87 body side molding questions

I am curious about this too.
I am doing an 87 suburban and haven't had any success re-attaching the factory molding or finding it repro.

I could swear I saw it a few years ago as a roll with adhesive backing but can't find it now.

JCWhitney sells it. http://www.jcwhitney.com/extra-wide-...85&filterid=j1
Used to be able to find it at Autozone and VIP right on the shelf, but I havent looked lately and these trucks are getting older, so they probably don't anymore. But you could ask, they could probably get it for you. I've done it once before, and plan on doing it again with the new truck. Helps to lay it out in the sun to soften it up and take the roll out of it, or it will just want to spring back into the shape it was in the roll. I don't remember doing anything special about beveling the edges, I think I cut it with a whiz wheel.
You will have to re-use or get new corners, this stuff wont bend that way. I mean the clip-on corners right under the taillights. Snap a chalk line to give you a straight place to work on, and pull the tape backing out a bit at a time, so as you stick one end down, you pull the backing out a little farther and stick a little more of it to the truck. Instead of peeling all the backing off at once and having no adjustment as you go along if you get a little crooked.

I just noticed LMC also has it in a precut package. if you're not poor like me that seems like a real timesaver.

I used the LMC pre cut parts.

You can check out my installation in my build thread (linked below - page 6 post 142, and page 8 post 198).
