Whats the deal with hoods?

Guys,

Trying to get a handle on items I want to do to my sons truck, I keep seeing hoods that have no ridge running down front of hood or that have been deleted on the very front...Is this hand-mod or can one buy this hood somewhere?

Same question for front grill. I see several that have a billet grill, I have seen chrome bar grills, and I have seen black grills. Where can these be purhcased?

Re: Whats the deal with hoods?

OK- found hood answer. I guess the 67-68 hood did not have the ridge down front. Here is tread discussing it...

IN any case, it sounds like a pain in the arse. THe thread above does not seem to resolve it, but clearly pleanty of people do this. Anyone done this recently, how hard is it?

Still looking for grill options...

Re: Whats the deal with hoods?

Im not sure but I think you may be talking about the differences between '67-'68 hoods and '69-'72 hoods. While the body style of the trucks is the same, there are differences, especially in the hoods. There are also many differences in what is on the front of the hood from year to year. We need to know the year of your truck, and if its chevy or GMC. There are many companies that carry parts for these trucks. Try Classic Parts of America, LMC truck, Brothers truck parts, GMCpaul, Mar K parts, trimark and others. Search "67-72 truck parts" on google.

THe truck is a 71 stepside chevy.

The hood issue is a pain in the @ss and not even worth the effort for an almost unoticable mod. The cowl hoods, grills and inserts can be had from LMC, Classic Parts of America, or various board members and venders.

Re: Whats the deal with hoods?

That teal truck looks to me like a '71 grill and bumper on a '68.

Here is another thread...http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=458309

LMC has same induction cowl hood. Not the look I want. I just think the older hood looks much better...

Re: Whats the deal with hoods?

To be honest, I like both hoods. But I really like the 69-72 cuz I think it looks beefier from the front. Id be happy with either one, but if it was a huge issue for me, I would rather look for a different truck than cut and weld the hood.

This is the only way to make a 67-68 hood fit with the 69-70 & 71-72 grilles. The other option would be to change the entire front clip and go with the 67-68 grille also.

Re: Whats the deal with hoods?

I like both hoods but, i would rather drive looking at a 69-72 hood. Make sense the 67-68 just don't look right to me while driving

As far as grills the stock 71-72 comes in gray but i've seen several people paint them black. There are several aftermarket grills available like the billet grills etc.

just a pic from a LMC catalog.
