what is it like driving a big block stroker??

I'm curious to know what its like driving these trucks with like a 550 or 600 HP big block. Is it scary fast and dangerous? Or are these trucks heavy enough to keep things under control? Anybody lower or bag their trucks with a big block and had problems getting everything to fit? Thanks!

Re: what is it like driving a big block stroker??

I have a 402 BB with some engine work, but not pushing anywhere near 600 hp. So, i would say yes!! they'd be scary fast, that is assuming you get them to hookup. Problem with mine is it'll spin the tires all day since there's little weight over the rear end. I'm also running 50's on it

Ya, hard to get hooked up but......the pull from 35 to 75 is pure rush. With a good posi on coils these track straight with pretty good front to back weight transfer.....slowing down is the opposite! Put real good disks up front, you'll need them.

ZZ572 in a 67 stepside---620 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Scary? no. Fast? You bet yer backside. lowered 4.5 rear 3.5 front. fits just fine.

Re: what is it like driving a big block stroker??

There was a GMC with a sbc and a 6-71 blower in town a while back. When I saw it on a chassis dyno it was a bit over 450 RWHP IIRC. It looked like a handful on the road. Too much is usually just about right.

Re: what is it like driving a big block stroker??

Was with a buddy on the weekend, ZZ572 in a 71 Blazer 4x4. Stock drivetrain(to see how long it would last). 1 pull in a small town tractor pull, first round, turned the rear driveshaft into a twisty-cone. The break showed at least three twists before snapping.

Sounded awsome though.

Re: what is it like driving a big block stroker??

I don't have a big block stroker motor, but I do have a 417 hp Smeding 383 stroker. As far as what it is like, just imagine your cab filling up with tire smoke.

Re: what is it like driving a big block stroker??

I know I'm in the wrong section since I have a 77, posted this over there the other day. Ran across your question doing a search on stroker motors. I have 496 in the 550hp range, not fast but fun to drive. Serves the purpose it was built for. The best part of it is you can putt around town or blow the tires off of it if you feel the need.

Ya know I've always thought/said,
"There's something to be said in Just knowing you have that much HP is good enough for ".

So instead of miles per gallon(MPG), he measures in (GPM) Gallons per mile.
