worth replacing
Should I expect anything worth while by replacing this old stabilizer/Steering Damper, I have already rebuilt the front end. I probably will not be going down any old wash board roads any time soon. If you have replaced one and thought it was good or bad let me know any insight would be great. I just do not want to spend another $40 and my time AGAIN. Also would this have been a factory part?

Re: worth replacing
I dont remember ever seeing one on a truck so I would think its an aftermarket part. By the looks of it, its probably shot.

Re: worth replacing
If you still have manual steering it might be worth replacing, If converted to power steering it is probably not needed. Kieth

Re: worth replacing
Take is off. Push and pull on it and see how worn it is. That may help you figure out when to replace it.

Re: worth replacing
sell the whole truck on ebay as a "the only one ever produced with a stabilizer" cuz i've never seen or heard of such a thing as an original option. But if LMC says it's so, well, it must be...
Bottom line, I can't imagine you'd actually need it. I'd yank it. Drive it. If you see problems crop up with bump steer (nasty shock or steering jerk after a pothole), THEN get another one. Last edited by jocko; 06-03-2011 at 09:00 PM. |
