Question 350 Hydraulic Camshafts

Looking at replacing my stock camshaft for a Hydraulic camshaft.

Do yall have any recommendations? Brands? Part numbers?

The engine si a stock 350 4 bolt main, and I'm not quite ready to stroke it to 383. Just looking for something that will drive good day to day and will give me some extra power.

thanks

Re: 350 Hydraulic Camshafts

It's a 99.9% bet that the cam in there now is "hydraulic"....what is the issue you are having? why replace it?

Re: 350 Hydraulic Camshafts

your cam now is a flat tappet hydraulic cam. If the rest of the motor is stock. leave the cam stock. If you do heads, intake, carb, etc.... THEN i would consider it. I would look at comp cams 268h.

YEP! lil RV cam is all u want, might i add to to this?? Your heads have 3/8 press in studs, and a wicked lift will pull them right out. So id do a lil RV cam, lifters n what not will b included..... check out comp cams and see what they can do for you. If u ask me... torque is power.
EDIT: look for "normal-mild" idle.. NOT "ROUGH"

Re: 350 Hydraulic Camshafts

Longhair, I wasn't really having problems with it. Recently blew a head gasket; and I figured since I was going have to rebuild the whole to topside the engine; I'd might as well go for an upgrade. I'm also replacing my quadrajet with a Edelbrock 600 CFM/a performer intake.

Wow, thanks all for the great info.

Yes, an RV cam is what I am really looking for.

Re: 350 Hydraulic Camshafts

The more "duration" you have the more the power band goes up in the RPM range. Not good on a heavy vehicle. If you have a big lopey cam it will be a dog until the RPMs get way up there.

Then with the R's you blow the lower end out.

Yes the RV cam is the way to go for street use.

Every time I went for a so called mild cam the car rocks from side to side at idle, no vacuum for power brakes, needed a stall converter, lower gears, a huge trans cooler, a ton of fuel and slicks. So much for the mild cam theory.

Ah but what a ride lol
