3 Point Seat Belt Hook Up 67-72 Chevy Trucks

1. What years of our Chevy Trucks ( 67-72) have the threaded bolt hole in the cab corners for a seat belt hook up ?

2. Did any of our trucks come from the factory with the 3 point seat belts, or were they dealer insatalled ?

3. Has any of you seen NOS bolts for the cab corners ?

4. Are there any parts places that carry these bolts specified for the 67-72 Chevy Trucks ?

5. Were the bolts painted the color code of the truck if in fact they came from the factory installed, or dealer installed ?

6. From what other years of Chevy Trucks (newer or older) that have the bolt in the Cab corners will fit the 67- 72 Chevy Trucks?

All these questions are regarding to using correct factory parts in our 67-72 Chevy Trucks or at least to use General Motors Parts.

My 68 has the mounting holes. Don't know the rest as I installed Ford belts in mine.

My '68 has the threaded holes, as well.

My Dads '71 GMC had shoulder harnesses but all I remember
was how uncomfortable they were...separately tightened
and zero forgiving. We never used them.

Not even sure if Dad's would have been considered a 3-point.

I'm sure you will get more definitive answers than mine.

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Hook Up 67-72 Chevy Trucks

From what I've seen on this website, they were available from the factory as seen in the first two photos below of a 1968's glove box door and the actual belt in the truck, in a junk yard. I'm sure they could have been dealer installed also. The drawing below is from a page in an assembly manual ( I don't know the year ) which shows the bolt you're talking about. The bolt would not have paint, since it was installed after the cab was painted. On the assembly line, any bolt that was installed at the time of painting - GOT PAINT - any bolt that was installed after the painting process - DIDN'T !!! They weren't actually three point belts like the new one's being sold for our trucks now - they are a separate belt and latch. As I remember from our "new" 71 Cadillac that had them, they are a PAIN IN THE NECK to use and I could never get anyone riding with me to use them !!! I'm planning on installing some of the new three point belts in my 70, like the last picture below, which shows some installed from LMC in a 67 stepside.

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Hook Up 67-72 Chevy Trucks

1. All 67-72 Chevy trucks have threaded provisions in the pillar for shoulder belt attachement.

2. 3 point seatbelts were not used in our trucks. A separate shoulder harness was a factory option from 67-70, and I believe was a dealer installed option in 71-72. These are 2 point harnesses, basically another lap belt draped across your shoulders. The retaining dimple in the shoulder belt retainers on the pillar is vertical on 67-70 belts and horizontal on 71-72 belts (I think this is how to differentiate factory installed versus dealer installed)

3. The bolt used in the pillars is a 7/16 20 (fine thread) It is the same bolt used on the lap belts (floor) in '67 trucks. 68-72 trucks used a different size on the floor mounts.

4. You can get a 7/16 20 thread bolt from Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. It will not be the "correct" seatbelt mounting style, but it will work and is not seen when covered with the retaining boot.

5. The bolts were shiny, not painted.

6. The floor mounting bolts in a '67 truck will work for the pillar mounts, as stated above.

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Hook Up 67-72 Chevy Trucks

Just a note. I am completing redoing the interior on my 68. I ordered the 3 point seat belt kits from LMC. I wanted more than just lap belts. The instructions were not that good, but the end result was worth the money....Russ

If you or others could post some pictures of how you mounted the recoil part of the seat belt hook up to the floor of the truck ,It might show me why my belts are not quite long enough for some of the tummy's that ride in my truck ..
mine included..LOL

Juliano's Hot Rod Shop:

http://www.julianos.com/

has the OEM grade 8 bolts to fit the upper cab mount for the shoulder harness on the 67-72 trucks. $6.00 each. These are the correctly stepped and shouldered bolts for that application. They also have a complete set of 3 point belts and retractors but they are not OEM.

You will not find these bolts in a parts house.
