auto trans install?
putting a th350 in one of my trucks, does the center crossmember (under the flywheel) have to be removed, or will the trans fit by it?

It will be easier to get the tranny in and out if you remove it. You also might have fitment problems. Just grind down the rivits and punch them out.

 .... more work! hey- has anyone found a driveshaft that is a bolt in for a longbox auto install?

I would definitely remove the bellhousing crossmember.
The length of the driveshaft will vary with the length of the tailshaft on the trans. I believe there are 3 length for the TH350. If it were me, on a long bed, I would stick with a 2 piece.

I agree with the Captain. The TH350 will fit with the original crossmember in there, you'll be a lot happier with it removed. It is a pain to take out, though.

hey sft I see you look to have a th350 what did you do for the drive shaft?
my th350 will be out of a 79 transam, not sure which of the 3 lengths that one is..

Mine had the 3 speed(LWB), I put a TH350, and the drive shaft fit....Now that I think about it, I guess that doesnt help any...sorry

When I had the turbo 350, I just had the driveshaft cut down to fit. I wish I had an easier, cheaper solution. |

If you know someone with good welding skills and a mig welder you can shorten the shaft yourself. Balance it when finished, cost is about 40 dollars but worth every peny.
