Rare find and paint ?

Recenty bought a 66 big window short bd fleetside with fact 283 automatic. With all documentation when sold in 66, its dark blue ,painted once as close as possible.now my ? Were all 6os interior fawn color only? My firewall is fawn.oh forgot its a custm cab with all deluxe trim.

yes a 66 will have a fawn interior, and a dark brown dash.
the firewalls were interior color from some plants, so that is stock as well..

yep, jonz correct - i've got almost exactly the same truck you describe Ronee - my firewall is black though - so not sure if it was not painted that at some point - could have been.

Jonz - was the other alternative for firewalls black or body color - do you know?

One more comment - the dark brown color on the dash (for 66) was also a satin (almost dull) coat and had a rough texture. It's actually a pretty nice touch, I wouldn't have thought that if all I did was read the description, but I find I like mine quite a bit.

My 66 GMC was built in Pontiac Michigan, the interior and firewall was painted fawn, other plants painted the firewall black, some plants painted the inner rear fenderwells black, who knows why, but they did vary. Kieth

The interior fawn color was used from '62 thru '66 on GM pickups. '66 Chevy pickups did have the unique brown dash only color, however '66 GMC's did not follow this pattern. As stated by jonz, firewall color ( fawn or body color )depended on where truck was built. Your vin # will state where truck was built, usually trucks with fawn firewalls were built at east coast or mid west assembly plants. Never seen a black firewall unless truck was originally black.
