Horn contact kit assembely?

Did a search and got some info but does anyone have a picture/diagram of the correct order all the parts are installed?Please bear with me,eventually I will be able to contribute with answers as well as questions.Thanks.

Got that already but thanks.Through the search function it appears the LMC diagram may be incorrect.Looking for real knowledge from someone that has replaced one.Had the horn honking continusely,now can't get that.

I think I can help you, but I need to ask a couple of questions. What did you do to make the horn stop sounding continuously? Do you have the horn button on the steering wheel off and do you have access to a 12v test light?

I have pix when I get home for ya. I also got a 69-72 horn cap hardware in a baggie (used, but all there in case your missing some)

I just unplugged it at the horn itself{so I could think}and yes to a test light.Its a 69 c10,not sure if the column is original but its not billet or tilt.Guessing I would say orginal.

Okay, horn circuit is fairly simple. The wire coming up the column through the turn signal switch is hot all the time and when you push the horn button, it grounds that wire which is attached to the control side of a relay. The relay closes and puts power to the horn to tell someone to get out of the freakin' fast lane if you're gonna do 45 or to gain the attention of an attractive female. So if the horn is blowing all the time, either the wire in the column is shorted to ground or the horn contact in the steering wheel is touching ground. Older columns use a round metal disk that has three holes in it and sits down in a small groove on the plastic part of the wheel. The brass contact protruding through the turn signal cancel cam touches the back of the ring. There should be three screws that fit through a plastic retainer that sits down in the holes on the disk along with the retainer for the horn button. You can see this piece in the illustraion 68gmsee linked in his reply. If you've changed steering wheels right before this problem, the horn contact in the top of the column under the horn button is probably making ground all the time. If you have the original wheel and just all of a sudden the horn started blowing on its on continuously, I would suspect the wire from the turn signal switch up the column. If it got stuck after sounding the horn, the relay may be stuck closed. Let me know if there's any other pertinent information about when the problem started if these ideas don't help. Also, let me know if you need further clarification on anything. Hope this helps!

Still nothing using LockDoc's info.Let me start from the beginning.The truck{69c10}had a Grant wheel with a working horn,I replaced the Grant with a 4 spoke Chevy wheel{vega gt,monza,camaro etc}.I ordered a new horn contact kit from LMC,when first attemping to install I was getting power{heard contact from wheel and honking}now nothing.Also when installed the button has no "spring action".Have tried the disc both ways.Thanks again guys.

Hmmm, think I might know the issue. Any chance you can pop the horn button off and send a pic of the steering wheel (installed) and the backside of the horn button for the wheel?

Okay, there should be a round disc under that piece in the first pic with the three screws holding it onto the wheel. That disc should be spring steel and the brass contact coming up through a hole in the steering wheel should be spring loaded and touching the bottom of that disc. If all of that is in place, try pushing on the cup looking piece in the first picture and see if the horn blows. If not, remove the screws, lift the disc out of the way and take your test light to ground to see if touching the brass contact under the disc causes your test light to light up. If not, you have an open circuit somewhere between the horn relay and the top of the column. If the test light comes on, but pushing on the horn button retainer (the cup piece) still does not sound the horn, then you are not completing the circuit to ground to activate the relay. You can verify this by taking a small jumper wire and touching one end to the brass contact and the other to the steering column shaft. The horn should blow then. I ran into a similar problem on a 55 Chevy I was working on for a friend and it had a wheel off of a 62 Impala on it. They each used a different kind of horn contact connection at the wheel and were not compatible. Ended up having to make one using a combination of parts from the two setups. Let me know what you find.

Thanks for all the input,I have a working horn now.It honks everytime I hit the horn button from the 6 oclock position to the 1 oclock position,and sometimes when I turn the right turn signal on.A few adjustments is all it takes now.

Ended up using the long aluminium post,spring and inverted disc.Spring in first then the post.
