Dana 44 axle

I was changing out my ball joints on my 72 Blazer and I took the rotor off. The axle came out a bit so I figure I would just take it out completely.

My question is, is there anything supposed to be holding the axle into the center section or do I just put it back in. Does it not have a C clip like on a rear diff?

NO "C" clips holding in the front axle shafts.

Re: Dana 44 axle

Check out my build for a complete how-to on this if you'd like. Got a lot of pictures in there. I'd really encourage you to replace the inner axle seals and axle u-joints, too.

Re: Dana 44 axle

Well after seeing the pictures on your rebuild I think I will replace the axle seals and u joints since you make it look so easy. My u-joints seem ok but one of my axle tubes is always wet.

Good thing you caught that. That's definitely a sign of a bad seal. Mine was exactly the same way. If you need any help, feel free to shoot me a message.

Re: Dana 44 axle

That is simply GM's built in oiling system. Mine is broke, my axle shafts are a little rusty.
