Well, I figured out SOME of smog stuff..
Well, after a long weekend of crapiness..I finally figured out, I think I'm just going to take the truck to my friend and let HIM smog it for $125 . Here's what I found out this weekend...
1.) I took my Hedmann #69090 Headers back to Summit in Reno, because I ORIGINALLY ordered the #69097 headers (California Smog Legal ones), but they sent me the #69090 headers (they're identical TO the #69097) and I told them I needed the #69097, so, they exchanged them just fine...but on a HUNCH, I told them to check the box, in case I may get screwed again..sure enough, in the #69097 box, was the #69090...so we went through about 6 different boxes of #69097, all #69090!! So I finally just ended up getting my money back ($220) 2.) I was looking through the CARB E.O.'s last night on the internet...and I seen that the #69097 header isn't even FOR my truck! It's for a 78-82 C10! BUT, on the CARB E.O. Sticker that I have on my truck, it says #69097 IS smog legal for all 75-81 Chevy C10's with 350cid 4bbl option...From the CARB E.O.'s, it says #68891 is the smog legal part for my truck, but those headers are $380, and they're not available till MAY! 3.) My EGR Valve is 100% IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of! So, either I get a "Limited Parts Exemption", or I try and fix the one I've got... 4.) Here's my plan I'm going to try first... a.) Order the #69090 Headers for $110, then when I get them, the last digit is so unreadable, I'm going to change it from a 0 to a 7 (via a special stamping tool) b.) Fix my EGR Valve with a piece of brake line and some JB Weld. c.) Take it down to the referee station and see what happens. (Hey for $25, I'll TRY it.) If my first plan doesn't work, I'll just take it to my friend and let him smog it for $125 Then...off comes ALL the smog stuff! Straight up True Dual 2½ with a race muffler on each pipe! |
