Gas tank bracket removal
What is the preferred method to take the old inside gas tank brackets out? I could just cut off the lower portion and leave the spot welded section in, but would rather not. Do I need one of those spot welder drill bits???
Thanks. |

Re: Gas tank bracket removal
i just cut the nose off and left the bracket. It seems kinda structural to me. If not then drill the spot welds and hammer away. Also i think the one bolt that is left holds the cab support brace. might want to brace that up...good luck

Re: Gas tank bracket removal
i cut the spotwelds and removed the whole bracket. go slow so you don't drill all the way through the back of the cab. don't ask...

Re: Gas tank bracket removal
We just did this to our Big Window Cab. We used the spot weld tool from Snap-On/Blue Point and it worked great. The trick as I learned was to use a small wood wedge behind the panel. This is to put just enough pressure so that as soon the weld is cut it will pop out. Just take your time as there are about 14 spot welds holding each one in. I only went through the cab on one weld, that is when I figured out the wood wedge trick. If you go through the cab save the plug to weld back in.
