Does anyone know if a starter that bolts up to the block will line up with the hole in a straght drive bell housing. Iam wanting to use a mini starter but iI cant find one that bolts to the OEM bell housing

Re: Starter ?
What year and size engine? You weren't very clear on what your requirements are. What's a "straight drive bellhousing?" Do you mean the older style where the starter bolts to the bellhousing and not to the block? Not sure what the solutions are for that setup.
But if you have a more modern design where the starter bolts to the block, as I said in the link to the thread posted above, for a SBC (and some BBC) chances are, one of these over the counter mini-starters will work depending on your flywheel/flexplate tooth pattern: 186-tooth version: 8.1L 2003 Yukon or Silverado. L-pattern bolts. Advance PN 17420 153-tooth version: 5.7L 1995 Corvette. straight-pattern bolts. Advance PN 17124

Re: Starter ?
Did a bunch of reading on this a while back and had this bookmarked on my "buy sometime when I'm less poor list". Pretty sure I got a recommendation for it off this forum but can't find the thread.

Re: Starter ?
Sorry I wasn't very clear on my application. My truck is a 68,with a 350SB and a 4Speed trany with the original cast iorn bell housing. It has about 475hp I need to run a hi-torque starter with the compression it has.The ones I have looked at all bolt to the block and they say they will bolt up to both 186&153 tooth flywheels.Dose anyone know if the starter drive on one thats bolts to the block will line up with the hole in the bell housing

Re: Starter ?
I don't know about the small gear reduction mini starters, but the standard size block mounted starters will not bolt up to the block when using the original cast iron bellhousing. Have you tried a high torque starter designed to bolt up to the bellhousing?
