Saw a DMax Burb at the track today!
We went to Montgomery Motorsports Park to catch the Hot Rod Power Tour and I saw it making passes. It was ungodly hot and the track was slick as an onion, but the big Burb still ran a best time of 13.10 @ 108 while I was watching. It embarrassed several muscle cars and Cummins Dodge 2500. I wish I had been able to get some up close pics aand specifics, but the only place I ever saw it was running. The place was packed, and I don't know where he was parking...

Awesome! To bad you couldn't get closer to check it out and talk to the owner.

Re: Saw a DMax Burb at the track today!
I could probably do a 15 sec 1/4 mile or better in my 72 burb c20 if i put my 406sbc and 700r4 in it. that 3 on the tree is fun but is not very quick.
if you ever see that truck again, you need to get the owner on this board! |

No doubt. That's the bad thing, I never caught up with him. I just saw the Burb running. I would have looked to seen under the hood.

Re: Saw a DMax Burb at the track today!
Does anyone have anymore info. on this build? I'm curious about the transmission setup and how they got it to ride so low.
That is an awesome ride. I have a 72 Sub and an 04 Sub Dmax conversion but the ultimate for me will be to put the 72 body on the late model chassis. I'm thinking the way to do it is swap the dmax into a suburban chassis like mine. The wheelbase between the 72 and 04 is pretty close. So I'm thinking that with a small body lift it could be close enough that you wouldn't have to cut up the frame. But I am just speculating. |

Hey guys this is the owner of the 72 burb with the duramax. Been trying to post on here but not real handy at the computer. I am from Carroll Iowa and this was my project over the winter. Tons of fun to drive it made the long haul on the power tour 4123miles door to door! Glad you all like it

Re: Saw a DMax Burb at the track today!
We put it on the chassy dyno in michigan 435hp and 889ft lbs of torq I think the 12 bolt has seen it match! Just put in a moser dana 60 with 35spline axles that should take care of the torq but now 4 a bigger turbo!!

WELCOME 72duraburb!
You have to tell us all about your very cool burb! Did you take pictures during your build? If you did, please post those up so we can all see how you did it! There are few similar builds on this board, and it's cool to see another diesel powered burb here. Again, welcome to the best place on the net for the Suburban!

Awesome! I'm glad you found the board! I tried to find you at Montgomery, but I kept missing you. Very nice build. You have seen the crowd cheering when you made that first pass! Everybody was shocked!

Re: Saw a DMax Burb at the track today!
The start of the build was a 72 burb that originated form arizona so it had front and rear air. Started with a bare frame and a 72 pickup cab to make sure of clearance problems along the way used a fatman front with air ride. moved the engine as low and rearward as I could get it then fabed some motor mounts and trans crossmember. The engine is a 06 lbz duramax with the 6spd allison trans with the 12bolt in question came a richmond gear 3.08 ratio yukon axles eaton center section and cover with bearing supports. I also used aftermarket tailing arms in the rear also did some tweeking on the engine at this point I was about a month or 2 into the project. started right before christmas. I have some pics of the build that I will try to get posted if I can figure out how. once all of the above was done I put the body of the burb on the chassy and started to enjoy! We left iowa with about 1200 miles on the swap to head to florida on the power tour and let the fun begin!! Since my return home i have replaced the front with the factory cradle and tubular arms 2in modular spindels an 13in wilwoods on the front and a dana 60 from moser and 12 wilwoods on the back. I am in the process of doing a stage 5 kit in the allison trans so I can make some more power safely. I will be at good guys this weekend car craft nats in minnisota and all deisel drags in bandimere in august. I thought the 13.1 was pretty respectful considering the 25 gal of fuel in the tank and our luggage in the back not to mention the first time in my life ever being on a drag strip. This project is the best build I have ever done it makes awesome power has air and can hold the wife and all four kids with room to spare!!

Very cool Burb! I'll keep an eye out for you this weekend. We'll be there and might run the auto cross too. My brother just came back from Brainerd with the vette this past weekend. It wasn't running very fast but atleast it made passes. See you this weekend. Ryan.

So, uh, let me get this straight, you put a Duramax in a '72 Suburban, you started around Christmas and finished it sometime in May!!??? Good Gawd man!! That is beyond impressive!! Hell, it took me a year and a half to put a (comparably) "dumb" Cummins into mine (Dieselwrencher is still wrenching on his) and you crank this thing out in six months with a bunch of other mods. WOW!! Very nice. You definitely need to post up many pics of your conversion. You mentioned you went back to the factory cradle. What was the reasoning behind that?? Way cool man!! I look forward to seeing some more of it. 13.1 with all of your luggage
