Thermostats

What brand of thermostat are you guys using? I would prefer one you can get locally at an auto parts store. I had just the standard issue Murray and it doesn't hold a temp for 10 cents. I put one of the Stewart Components Robertshaw's in it this weekend. Now it won't run over 112 degrees, even after idling for an hour. Advice appreciated.

Re: Thermostats

I use whatever my local NAPA store has... I think it's a Stant. Not sure because I haven't needed a new one in several years.

Re: Thermostats

In this area, NAPA is not what it used to be so I just buy mine at the local auto parts stores like Auto Zone, Oreilley's or Advance.

I've had some bad ones from all of them so if you suspect the thermostat, test it by heating it in an old pot with a thermometer to check the water temp when it opens.

I just put one in from NAPA. The small print on the packaging said Stant.
